Ignite presentations: Learner response

Ignite presentations: Learner response

1) Type up your feedback in full including the ratings out of five for each category.

Feedback:

  • Not on ignite presentation, not a good start, but, does follow presentation conventions and contains a solid introduction.
  • Video content is extremely powerful in showing the recent cases of police brutality in USA.
  • Switch T.I shows good structure and clear evidence of strong research.
  • Refers to notes but confident presentation and delivery.
  • Such a great choice of text - but perhaps needed to make clear this is a focus on the music video as the primary text.
  • Themes and wider contexts very good - this then leads perfectly into Black Lives Matter.
  • Discussion of representation brings this into media territory with good use of terminology.
  • More evidence of excellent research - incredible statistics on US police brutality.
  • Bringing UK context into this is interesting but need more context.
  • It then jumps back to TI which is a bit jarring but the context is superb.
  • Powerful ending to a superb presentation - brilliant!

Significance: 5
Structure : 4
Simplicity: 4
Rehearsal: 4
Total : 17/20

  • Q+A is handled confidently - thoughtful response to great Q on whether police brutality is increasing.
  • Another good Q on music artists and that influence - with a confident, articulate answer.

2) Use this feedback and your own feelings regarding your presentation to self-assess and write a detailed WWW and EBI for your own research and presentation as a whole.

WWW:
I believe that the presentation as whole went well. I feel I engaged with my class and explained things in detail so that they could understand the content of my presentation. I also adapted several aspects of police brutality and the T.I - Warzone music video that were important to the overall theme. Meaning, I did not include things that were irrelevant so my presentation had more significance. In addition to this, my delivery of was good, I was in time with the auto advance and had confidence when I was speaking.

EBI:
In my opinion, I think I could have had a better structure towards the end of the presentation as I went from speaking predominantly about police brutality to T.I - Warzone which could have been confusing for my class. In addition to this, I feel I could have brought more statistics about whether or not police brutality is increasing or decreasing and the effect that new/media has had on this.

3) Write a paragraph discussing how your presentation will lead into your critical investigation. Some of this may refer to your feedback (a greater focus on media debates, for example) or in rare cases you may want to change the focus of your investigation entirely.

My presentation will help my critical investigation as there were alot of concepts that were noted about police brutality and the text that would be useful to me. For example, initially, the aim of my critical investigation was going to be based predominantly on the T.I - Warzone music video and the representation of that, however, after my class discussion, I realised that if my critical investigation was based on the music video, it would narrow my discussion points.
The Q+A brought up some good ideas that I could talk about. This included the increasing use of video footage (citizen journalism) and how this has had an affect on the way police brutality and racism is viewed and the execution of the perpetrators. Also, how other artists have focused on the concept of racism and of police brutality and if this has influenced change.
By the summer project being transitioned into a presentation, I was able to focus on the important aspects of my media text and subject, which, I think would help me in my critical investigation as these are interesting factors and can generate important ideas. The statistics that I collated could also be included in my critical investigation.
