Media issue/debate: Police brutality

The history of police brutality and the conflict that this brings between people of different ethnicities/classes/job. Also, a deeper look at the outcome for police and the victims when this happens and also what regulations the police institution have on making sure that the people they are employing are fair and unbiased. In addition to this, I would look at the media coverage of these events, the statistics and how many police officers are and are not convicted for these crimes, also, the effect it has on society as a whole and the actions that they carry out against this. Things like the blacklivesmatter campaign would come under this debate.

Link to Media key concepts (MIGRAIN) - at least THREE:

Ideology: The idea that if you are African American you are likely to be violent or carrying a gun or drugs leading to little leniency or investigation from the police.
Narrative: The on-going battle between police and African Americans and the stereotype that reinforces and supposedly justifies police brutality.
Representation: African Americans in society and how that has led to police brutality.

Wider context - impact of text/topic on society: My chosen topic is important as this is historical in society and still happening up to this day. In modern society people are protesting against these sort of events but there is not much progress therefore this topic is important as it will take a deeper look into police brutality. Someone that is in hierarchy - police, seem to be held unaccountable for murdering someone that is not - African Americans even though is not ethical or moral. This is therefore a topic for discussion.

Linked production: The media product that I intend to make along side my investigation is a music video. I hope to sing my own track alongside a music video about there having to be change in society and how people could come about to do this.
